Mike Green's response highlights the importance of understanding the true meaning of equity and its implications for creating a more just and equitable society.

By framing equity as fair access to resources and opportunities, we are only at the starting point. The end game, as Green points out, is ownership.

However, historically, equitable ownership has been denied to marginalized communities, particularly Black people in America, due to systemic racism and discrimination perpetuated by laws, policies, and practices that were designed to maintain white domination and supremacy. The resistance to DEI efforts by opponents who seek to protect ownership and control over resources, businesses, and intellectual property is a reflection of this legacy of white supremacy.

To create a more inclusive and equitable society, we must acknowledge this history and actively work to dismantle the systems that perpetuate it. This requires a commitment to creating new policies, practices, and narratives that promote equity and inclusion, while actively challenging and dismantling systems that reinforce white domination and exclusion.

To achieve this, we must engage in honest conversations about the forces that have historically opposed progress towards equity, and work to expose these forces to a broader audience. We must also work towards building a coalition of individuals from diverse backgrounds who share a common vision for an inclusive and equitable society, and advocate for policies and practices that promote equity and ownership for all.

In doing so, we can begin to create a society where access to resources and opportunities are available to all, and where ownership is not limited to a select few based on race, ethnicity, gender, or socioeconomic status. This is a crucial step towards building a more just and equitable future for all.
