The Parallels Between Resurrection and Today’s Current Events

The message from the Pastor’s sermon today about the Easter story and his theme, “Turn the Page” inspired a moment of self reflection and thought.

The Easter story is one of the most important narratives in Christianity. It tells the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and subsequent resurrection, which Christians believe is the ultimate triumph over death and evil. However, beyond its religious significance, the story of the resurrection can also provide important lessons for us today. In particular, it can serve as an admonishment to “turn the page” on historical injustices and to rise up and speak truth to power.

Recently, we have seen many examples of historical injustices that have gone unaddressed for far too long. For example, the expulsion of two African American Legislators in the Tennessee Legislature for speaking out on behalf of the children and adults recently killed by a gunman was shocking. They were admonished for violating decorum in the State legislature, and as a result, they were expelled. This is just one example of the kind of silencing that has been used to keep marginalized communities from speaking out against injustices.

However, the Easter story reminds us that we cannot continue to see ourselves as helpless victims. Rather, we are part of a chosen generation that can advocate for change and social justice. Like Jesus’ resurrection, we too can rise up and demand that our voices be heard. We can challenge the status quo and push for a world where everyone is treated fairly and justly.

Of course, this is not an easy task. We are up against powerful forces that are invested in maintaining the status quo. But the Easter story reminds us that we are not alone. We are part of a larger movement of people who are committed to making the world a better place. Like the disciples who continued to spread the message of Jesus even after his death, we too can continue to fight for racial and social justice long after the headlines have faded away.

In conclusion, the Easter story provides us with a powerful reminder of the importance of turning the page on historical injustices and rising up to speak truth to power. We must not be bound by silence and apathy, but rather we must use our voices to challenge the injustices that we see around us. And, just as Jesus’ resurrection gives us hope for the future, we too can have faith that we can create a world that is more just and equitable for all.
